We celebrated the 100-year long existence of the Finnish Defence Forces at our new premises. Having no agreement on the actual birthday of the Finnish Defence Forces makes it possible to celebrate the centennial all year around.
On Friday, 12th of October it was our turn to celebrate. The evening was a success, and we were glad to notice that our guests enjoyed the Finnish delicacies, especially the gravlax (salt-cured raw salmon).
We look forward to the next 100 years and remain committed to UN peacekeeping. Finland has participated in the United Nations peacekeeping operations since 1956. We share the ambition to provide security to civilians who suffer under a number of crises around the globe.
We are known for our well-trained and well-equipped soldiers who have the right attitude towards the task. Most of them are reservists who bring their civilian special skills to the operations as well. Furthermore, we have been pleased to see the impact the UN specific courses have had on the operations. These courses are conducted at the Finnish Defence Forces International Centre FINCENT and they are designed to meet the constantly evolving needs of the UN peacekeeping operations.
We would like to thank all our international colleagues who work closely with peacekeeping, you made the evening memorable.
