Speeches, 12/14/2016

Finland remains fully committed to CERF and has supported it since its inception.

We thank all those who have contributed to the success of CERF; the dedicated staff at all levels at UN headquarters and in the field, as well as all the member states who have generously provided funding. On this occasion, I would in particular like to express my country’s appreciation to the Secretary-General for his strong and tireless work in favor of CERF.

Finland fully supports the Agenda for Humanity and the commitments made at the World Humanitarian Summit. These also include a commitment to non-earmarked funding and multiannual agreements.

We encourage more countries to contribute to CERF and those already doing so to continue providing stable and predictable funding.

I am pleased to announce that Finland pledges an amount of 7 million euros, equivalent to approximately 7,5million USD, to CERF to be disbursed during the first quarter of 2017.

Finally, the question we often hear is: When will the humanitarian situation in the world get better? As we pledge funds here today, we need to remind ourselves that more must be done to end the protracted crises, which cause so much human suffering and most of the humanitarian needs.
