How are the interests of Finns secured in international crises? Are Finnish development assistance and trade efforts in conflict as economic growth in developing countries accelerates? And how does the Ministry for Foreign Affairs intend to respond to the growing expectations of citizens and enterprises in the face of ever shrinking resources?
Ambassadors of Finland working throughout the world will ponder these issues during the Annual Meeting of Finnish Heads of Mission in Helsinki from 25 to 27 August. During the Annual Meeting, heads of Finnish diplomatic missions will discuss current themes pertaining to Finland’s foreign and security policy, external economic relations and development policy.
The meeting will be opened on Monday, 25 August by Secretary of State Peter Stenlund. Ministers ErkkiTuomioja, LenitaToivakka and PekkaHaavisto will present issues topical in their own sectors at the start of the Annual Meeting. Minister of Defence CarlHaglund and Minister of Finance AnttiRinne will also take the floor on Monday. President of the Republic SauliNiinistö and Prime Minister AlexanderStubb will speak on Tuesday, 26 August. In addition, ErkkiLiikanen, Governor of the Bank of Finland, will give a speech on Europe.
