Minister Stubb to take a music exports promotion trip to London

Press Release 215/2012
18 September 2012

Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb will visit London on 19-20 September. The Finnish music exports promotion trip, organised together with Music Finland, aims at increasing exports of Finnish music to the UK by influencing the key practitioners in the music business, such as record companies, media and live music sector, and by promoting cooperation between Finnish music industry professionals and the local key people.

On Thursday 20 September Minister Stubb and his delegation of representatives of the Finnish music industry will meet with representatives of the Universal Music Group, Serious Ltd. - a producer of jazz, international and contemporary music - London Jazz Festival and the BBC. On the same day, Minister Stubb will host a reception of music industry people a the Embassy of Finland. Discussion topics during the day include Team Finland activities with regard to the music industry.

Finnish top quality music education clearly contributes to exports of music; in 2010 the market value of Finnish music exports was EUR 36 million. Music Finland’s flagship venture for 2012-2013 focuses on the United Kingdom. Through export programmes, music industry practitioners can receive financial support for product launches, marketing and promotion, tours and showcases in the UK, as well as for executing larger-scale export strategies.

While in the UK, Minister Stubb will attend a panel discussion under the topic Europe’s Fate in the Balance: Union or Break-up? at the Global Horizons 2012 seminar (globalhorizons.oxan.com) in Oxford on Wednesday 19 September, and meets with British Foreign Minister William Hague on Thursday 20 September to discuss current European issues.
