Committing to the CRPD means that its participants have the obligation to protect the fundamental freedoms and human rights of all persons with disabilities. The ratification strengthens the duty to promote these as legally binding human rights.

During the short ceremony Finland’s Permanent Representative, Kai Sauer expressed his satisfaction that Finland not only joined the CRPD but at the same time also to its Optional Protocol  "The ratification strengthens the protection of the persons with disabilities in Finland  people and increases the credibility of Finland's  human rights policy.
