Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will participate as Finland’s representative at the meeting of foreign ministers preparing for the EU-Africa Summit in Brussels on 1 April.
This will be the fourth summit held between the EU and Africa. The first summit was held in Cairo in 2000, the second one in Lisbon in 2007, and the previous one in Tripoli in 2010. In the EU-Africa Heads of State Summit on 2–3 April, beginning after the meeting of foreign ministers, Finland will be represented by Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen.In their meeting, the ministers will discuss the development of cooperation related to peace and security between the EU and Africa over the past decade, as well as concrete cooperation measures the partners have already been taking within the Joint Africa-EU strategy.
