Foreign Minister of Turkey Ahmet Davutoğlu will visit Finland

Foreign Minister of Turkey Ahmet Davutoğlu will visit Finland on 19 December at the invitation of Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja.

The topics of discussion between the foreign ministers will include the relations between Finland and Turkey and Turkey’s EU membership process as well as foreign and security policy issues of current interest, such as crisis management, enhancement of the status of women, Syria, the Middle East, Afghanistan and the situation of the International Arms Trade Treaty.

The foreign ministers will also discuss the future operations of the Friends of Mediation group, initiated by Finland and Turkey. The purpose of the group is to enhance cooperation in mediation between active states, international organisations and NGOs.

While in Helsinki, Foreign Minister Davutoğlu will also meet President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö, Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen, Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb, Speaker of the Finnish Parliament Eero Heinäluoma, and chair of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee Timo Soini. In addition, Minister Davuğlu will give a speech at the Paasikivi Society titled “Turkey's Current Role in Peace Building in the Context of Recent Developments, and its Reflection in Europe”.
