Foreign Minister Tuomioja to attend an Arctic seminar in Stockholm

Press Release 90/2013
18 April 2013

On 19 April, Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will participate in an Arctic seminar titled “Forum for Arctic Climate Change and Security”, to be held in Stockholm. The event is organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). Minister Tuomioja will appear together with Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt in the seminar’s high-level panel “Policy Directions for Arctic Security”, where he will give an address on the stability of the Arctic region.

The seminar will bring together researchers, public servants and decision-makers to address economic, international and security policy issues related to stability of the Arctic region in a comprehensive manner. The countries attending the event include both Arctic Council members and representatives from countries with a wider interest in the development of the Arctic region. The seminar ends a series of IISS seminars on Arctic issues, supported by Finland and Sweden. The earlier seminars addressed the Arctic region’s geo-economical, international political and military development.
