President of the Republic Tarja Halonen has been appointed co-chair of the UN High-level Panel on Global Sustainability. The Panel has been established by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen has granted 1.5 million euros in financial support to the Gaza Summer Games 2010, a children’s event organized by the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees UNRWA. The purpose of the games is to offer children a break from the conflict and the poverty that surrounds them by organizing summer holiday activities that enhance and contribute to tolerance.
